Instagram connection methods
The difference between Facebook Login and Instagram Login for your Instagram connection — and which one to choose.
When you click Add Account on the Instagram card, Scrollmark asks which connection method you want to use. There are two options, and the one you pick determines which features are available to you.
No Facebook Page? No problem.
Instagram Login (the second option) works without a connected Facebook Page. It is the right choice for creators and individuals who manage their presence entirely on Instagram.
The two methods
Facebook Login (recommended)
You log in with your Facebook credentials. Your Instagram professional account must be linked to a Facebook Page. This is the recommended option because it unlocks the full set of Scrollmark features.
Instagram Login
You log in with your Instagram credentials directly. No Facebook Page is required. This is a simpler setup path, but some features are not available because Meta's API does not expose them through this login type.

Social listening requires Facebook Login
Personalized social listening — the part of Scrollmark that surfaces conversations around your hashtag campaigns — relies on Meta's Hashtag Search API, which is only available through Facebook Login. If social listening is important to your workflow, use Facebook Login.
Which should I choose?
Choose Facebook Login if:
- You have (or are willing to create) a Facebook Page linked to your Instagram account.
- You run hashtag campaigns and want Scrollmark's social listening to track them.
- You want the fullest possible feature set now and in the future.
Choose Instagram Login if:
- You are a creator or individual with no connected Facebook Page, and you don't want to create one.
- You primarily need comment moderation, DM management, content publishing, and analytics — all of which work with Instagram Login.
- You want the simplest possible setup path.
Switching methods later
Your connection method is set at the time you first connect the account. To switch from Instagram Login to Facebook Login (or vice versa), you will need to disconnect your account and reconnect it using the other method.
Disconnecting can lose historical data
Disconnecting and reconnecting an account can drop historical data tied to the original connection. Only switch methods if you have a clear need. If you are unsure, contact Scrollmark support before disconnecting.
